Support GroupsSupport groups will be offered to the community throughout the year. The topics of each group will vary. Some of the groups we have offered thus far include: Support for parents whose child has died due to substance abuse, an adolescent support group offered at a local high school, guided relaxation, music therapy, and support for individuals who have lost a loved one due to suicide. The above groups were offered free of charge to the community and facilitated by mental health professionals.

Holistic HealthWe will actively work to educate the community about holistic health and wellness (mind, body, spirit) by encouraging healthy lifestyle practices and educating individuals about the benefits of aromatherapy, essential oils, art therapies, music, dance, and writing workshops. Classes will be offered and to all members of the community and taught by individuals experienced in these practices.

Nutrition & Fitness TrainingNutritional, fitness, and weight management training will be available for individuals within the community to assist them in attaining their personal goals. Broader educational programs on these topics will also be available and will be offered in group settings. Trainings will be conducted by individuals with a thorough understanding of the correlation between physical wellbeing and positive mental health. We hope to coordinate care with Primary Care Providers within the community. This coordination of care ensures participant safety by taking unique health needs and limitations into account when designing plans for nutrition and exercise. These services can also be expanded to help young athletes achieve their personal goals within their areas of interest.

Yoga & Meditation ClassWe aspire to educate the community about healthy lifestyle practices. As such, we plan to teach and facilitate yoga and meditation classes. We will educate the community about the benefits of adding these practices to their lifestyle as a proactive means to reduce stress and improve coping. We will also educate the community about how these healthier lifestyle practices will proactively reduce the secondary health related concerns associated with poor stress management and poor self-care practices. All yoga programs will be conducted by an individual certified in yoga. All mediation classes will be facilitated by mental health professionals or individuals experienced in meditation practices.

Support for Cancer SurvivorsOur community has a significantly high rate of cancer. We are currently partnered with Penn State Hershey Medical Center in researching cancer rates in rural communities (PPCC: The Partnering to Prevent and Control Cancer). PPCC is to create a program designed specifically for rural cancer survivors that will help increase physical activity. This study first strives to learn more about the factors that either encourage or discourage cancer survivors from being physically active.
